It has become a natural process for me to work out compositions on canvas.
I concentrate on colour, form and space when Im working. The narrative in the painting
naturally unfolds through a subliminal process in the creative act of making.
When I begin I generally think of people. People I know. People I’ve seen. People I
imagine. And sometimes I think of myself.
I am interested in people; the meaning of what it means to be a person and the
relationships we have with ourselves and the ‘outside world’. My paintings are an
uncovering and describing of this mystery in my day-to-day.
I also paint non-figurative work. But in my mind there is a direct relationship between
the object I am painting and a living person. Sometimes the pot of flowers can even
appear human to me.
