DIVINE SYMMETRY: Ingrid Uys

"This new collection is inspired by the idea of deeper reflections and the psychology of one’s perspective (Rorschach Inkblot tests). How a person’s view and perspective is influenced by a deeper insight or experience. The visual inspiration for this collection is drawn from nature, my surroundings and a personal preference/obsession with Art Nouveau. The graceful and elegant lines, intricate detail and organic forms of iris blooms and peacocks.”

Ingrid Uys's captivating artworks beckon us into a realm where the beauty of the hidden is illuminated with exquisite detail and delicate finesse. Through her masterful use of acetate, gold leaf, and oil on paper, Uys embarks on a botanical exploration that transcends mere representation, inviting viewers to delve into the intricate symphony of nature's secrets.

Symmetry emerges as a central theme, echoing an obsession with balance and harmony. Within the reflective undertones of Uys's compositions, one discovers a captivating interplay inspired by the enigmatic Rorschach patterns. Shadows dance with reflections, blurring the lines between reality and illusion, inviting us to ponder the essence of perception itself.

Uys draws inspiration from the timeless aesthetics of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, infusing her series with a rich tapestry of influences. Decorative patterns reminiscent of stained glass windows, elegant arches, and meticulous linework transport us to an era of opulent beauty and refined craftsmanship. Yet, amidst this homage to history, Uys seamlessly integrates elements of nature, weaving botanical motifs into the very fabric of her creations.

The cathedral-like grandeur of historic shapes intersects with the ethereal allure of gold leaf, creating a mesmerizing juxtaposition of the earthly and the divine. Each stroke of gold leaf serves as a beacon, guiding our gaze towards hidden depths and undiscovered wonders.

In Uys's botanical odyssey, every petal, every leaf, becomes a vessel for contemplation. Through her artistry, she unveils the sublime beauty concealed within the natural world, inviting us to embark on a journey of discovery and reverence. As we navigate through her enchanting tapestry of textures and forms, we are reminded that true beauty lies not only in what is seen but also in what is hidden, waiting to be unveiled.
